Customer Review: Great Probe Thermometer/Timer - Directions So So!

The reviews for this timer/probe thermometer are not very good. However, I think it is a VERY GOOD timer and meat thermometer and you should seriously consider it. Other probe thermometers usually have metal cords whereas this one has a vinyl covering that protects the cord from crimping! If you have had a probe thermometer before you know the problem - you have to handle the cord very very carefully otherwise, you have a dead thermometer. The only negative - the directions could be better - a lot better. I was a bit frustrated initially but once I figured it out I am very pleased with the product. It is more useful than my previous William Sonoma probe thermometer that unfortunately died (crimping). I have one suggestion. Read the directions and play with it before you plan to use it. I thought it would work like my previous probe and of course, attempted to use it the same way - stick the probe in the meat and click on the thermometer and select the meat type and doneness level. I couldn't get it right - I needed the probe function NOW. Sat down later and realized the first part of the directions describe the timer function and the second part describes the probe function. Now I love the product.
I highly recommend the product - just take the time to go through the directions and I think you will be VERY PLEASED.
I normally do not write reviews but I think this product has gotten a bad rap. Remember, Zyliss makes good products - the great salad spinner etc.
