Customer Review: The BEST Garlic Press You Will Ever Own!

I bought this because I was tired of cleaning out the catch in the second garlic press I had bought since I moved into my own place. I never thought there was a better way, because my mother's garlic press - although sturdier and more well made than any I had bought - still had the same story. The old story is: peel the garlic (ugh!), put in the garlic press, squeeze, scrape, rinse out under running water poking out the bits of garlic leftover with a bristle brush. This press had great reviews and I lucked out that it was on sale, so I figured I'd give it a shot.When the Zyliss garlic press arrived, I was impressed. It's sturdy and well made, and the press hammer moves independently of the press. This means that if you can fit the garlic in the basket, you can line up the hammer for a perfect fit. Contrary to other reviews, I did not find that the basket was too small. Although I do not use "elephant garlic", I have just finished pressing what I consider to be two very large cloves of garlic without any problem.
Now comes the joy of the press, how wonderfully it works! I placed the unpeeled garlic in the press, not really believing this thing would work. I had to use a little more force than I would with my old garlic press, but this presses the garlic through the skin! When I pressed down, the garlic came shooting out, leaving very little on the other side of the press, unlike the other garlic presses I have owned. Very little scraping is needed, but I would advise using a spatula, because the press is made of a non-stick material that you don't want to scratch. I lifted up the press hammer - thinking I would have to use the included cleaner - and the leftover peel actually came out with the hammer! All I had to do was take it off the hammer, drop it in the wastebasket, and rinse the press.
Amazing! I don't know how I lived without this thing, but I will be giving it to everyone I know that cooks this Christmas! What a GREAT product!
